Every time we left our home, we noticed a young woman sitting on the ground. She sits at the only cross road in Gisambi with a small bucket begging for money. We made some enquiries and discovered that she has only been in the village for a few months. She came from another village but the local people do not know where she came from. No one knows her name because she cannot communicate.

Today we had to travel from our home in Gisambi to Kisumu to collect manuals for a training course Greg begins to teach on Monday. The distance from Gisambi to Kisumu is not far but because of the condition of the roads it takes some time. We walked to where the local motorbike taxis are waiting for customers.

Today we travelled from Nairobi to Mbale. It was quite a journey. So here is a ‘true travel blog’. First, the plane was delayed. We finally got on our way and it was stormy which provided some good turbulence.

Today we had our final day of training with the leaders from Tumaini. Our final lesson focused on how to apply Bible truth. It was a very lively discussion when we came to the issue of teaching a principle from the Bible within our own culture. One question was, “Do we follow our own culture or the teachings of the Bible?”

Last night the Exchange Summit began. African church and community leaders and Australian church and community leaders came together. It started with an amazing prayer meeting followed by a time of worshiping our God together. We arrived on Tuesday night at around 10.00pm (local time). After travelling for 30 hours it was good to finally be here. On our 3rd and final flight, we could not land in Kisumu due to a violent storm over the airport. We circled the area for 20 minutes waiting for it to clear but it was not moving. So we had to return to Nairobi. After waiting to see if we would have to stay in Nairobi, we were told by the ground staff that we were flying back, we just had to wait for the plane to be refueled.
