YPC’s Six Core Values Explained
Faithful and Fruitful Bible Teaching
We are committed to hearing God speak through his Word and by His Spirit (Heb. 3:7-11; John 14:26). We are committed to teaching the Old and New Testament Scriptures as they point to, reveal, and refer back to the perfect life, atoning death and triumphant resurrection of the Lord Jesus (Luke 24:44-49; 1 Cor. 15:1-10). We are committed to the engaging expository preaching of God’s word in our Gatherings. We are committed to God’s people engaging with, understanding, and applying the Scriptures to live under Jesus’ Lordship by this and other discipleship and stage appropriate ministries (Col. 3:16). Our leadership are committed to leading in love, and to watching our lives and doctrine closely and leading others to do the same (1 Tim. 4:16; 2 Tim 2:15).
Living Now for Eternity
We are committed to living as exiles and sojourners in the world journeying to the true land of promise (1 Peter 2:11; Hebrews 11:13). We are committed to living holy and set apart lives for the Lord Jesus until His return in eternal glory (1 Peter 1:13-16; Rev. 21-22). We are committed to faithful living for the Lord Jesus by the convicting power and hope of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8). We are committed to loving Jesus and others and evidencing the fruit of the Holy Spirit in all our relationships with God and with others (Galatians 5).
Being Gospel-Shaped Communities
We are committed to living as God’s people who together are shaped by our common unity in the gospel. We are committed to loving God and loving others (John 13:34-35; Matthew 22:34-40). We are committed to gathering with God’s church as bigger and smaller communities to be taught and encouraged together, growing as disciples of the gospel as it is experienced in community (Acts 2:42-45; Hebrews 10:24-25). We are committed to showing real and welcoming hospitality towards others (Rom. 12:9-13). We are committed to loving, forgiving, praying for, encouraging and being accountable to one another (Gal. 6:1-2; Ephesians 4:32). We are committed to giving and receiving practical pastoral care to one another (Gal. 5:13; 6:9-10; 1 Thess 5:11). We are committed to reaching and engaging people of all nations with the gospel of Christ (Rev. 7:9-14).
Every Member and All Stages Ministry
We are committed to the Biblical leadership of elders who model and teach the faith (1 Peter 5; 1 Tim. 2). We are committed to the every member ministry of believers as a body with Jesus as our head, his body having many different members where all are necessary (1 Cor. 12-14). We are committed to Christ’s gifts of evangelists and shepherd teachers for his church, and through them the training and equipping of all the saints for the works of ministry and for the building up of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:1-16).
We are committed to teaching and applying the gospel of Jesus at all ages and stages of those in His church (Nehemiah 8; Proverbs 71:18-19; Isaiah 46:4-5; Luke 18:16-17).
The Mission to Make Jesus Known:
We are committed to the good news of Jesus we want all people to know Him too. We are committed to Jesus great commission to make disciples who observe all Jesus commands (Matt 28:16-20). We are committed to living relationally, intentionally, and missionally among the people whom God has us (Daniel 1-7). We are committed to proclaiming the gospel of Jesus amongst and living holy lives amongst not yet believers, so they too might know Jesus as Saviour, Lord, and Eternal Hope (1 Peter 1-5).
We are committed to our partners in gospel mission who make Jesus known amongst other communities and cultures. We are committed to relational, prayerful, and financial partnerships in the gospel in the hope of seeing many people living for Jesus’ and His Kingdom (Phil. 1-4).
Being God’s People Who Pray
We are committed to praying God's promises, plans, and purposes. We are committed to relating with our saving God by communicating with him through prayer (Rom.12:12; Acts 2:42). We are committed to praying for God’s forgiveness (James 5:16), presenting our requests before him (Phil. 4:4-9), giving thanks for God’s continuous grace to his people in the gospel (1 Cor. 1:4), and to asking for God’s wisdom and for His will to be done (James 1:5). We are committed to being God’s church who rejoices, prays and gives thanks in all circumstances (1 Thess.5:16; Ps. 50:4; ).
